Twitter has been the source of a lot of emotions for me and considering my senior superlative in my sorority in college was Most Likely to Get In A Twitter Fight1, I must offer some parting words to my one true love: Twitter.
Here are some of my personal favorite pop culture moments on Twitter between 2009 and 2022. Using screenshots instead of embedding this time because who knows how much longer they’ll be up? May she rest in peace.
Rihanna being absolutely savage in the early days
When celebrities were first hopping on the Twitter train in the early 2010s, Rihanna was known for her constant clapbacks. The Savage queen would read people to absolute filth on a regular basis.
December 21
On a thread discussing America’s response to the pandemic, someone with the username lottidot claimed that Black people would all gain powers on December 21, 2020. Black Twitter went crazy with that and some peak comedy took place that day.
Baby, This is Keke Palmer
An account by the username @TrixieNumba9 tweeted a photo of Keke Palmer during an Akeelah and the Bee press conference and said: "All the girls that looked like this in high school could s*** a mean d***." Then, someone DMed her saying:
"Excuse me ma'am, not to be disrespectful or rude but could you please take post down. That is my sister who was killed by a metra train. And it this post is very disrespectful. Idk who you are or if you even know her but I need you to take this down please."
The original poster replied to the message and said: "Baby, this is Keke Palmer."
Vintage Kardashian Tweets
In general, the Kardashians used to tweet some really weird shit. I’m not sure if it was the drugs or the burning desire for fame, but either way, it was an interesting peek into their psyche.
I will truly miss the absolute hellscape that was once the funniest corner of the internet. What are some of your favorite Twitter moments? LMK
It should be noted that I also won Most MySpace Addicted in 8th grade. Do with this information what you will.
